Zidane and Beckham together again?

I have a really hard time beleiving this could even be close to true, but it keeps coming up.  I haven’t actually heardLalas talking about Zidane, but they claim it happened.  Aparently they are talking about brining Zidane to the Galaxy. Here is a quote from VitalFootball.co.uk attributed to the Alexi Lalas in the Times:

‘Everything is very preliminary. If it happens, that would be wonderful - not just for the Galaxy, but also for our league and I think he would really enjoy the opportunity, because he is competitive and he wants to win.’ ‘He’s a great player and he doesn’t want to sit in the French countryside drinking wine.”
I couldn’t imagine much better than playing professional soccer, but sitting in the French countryside drinking wine doesn’t sounds so bad.  What do you think, is this even close to a possibility, or is someone just dreaming?

Open tryouts lead to a couple of real prospects

The LA Galaxy recently held open tryouts that were critisized by some as something an amateur team would do.  It turns out to not be such a bad deal, they got 2 prospects from the tryouts that will be training with the team in the upcoming preseason schedule.

Rui Fortes, most recently with the Rhode Island Stingrays of the USL development league was one of the players that impressed Galaxy head coach Frank Yallop.  Rui is Portugeese, but his green card will make sure he does not count against the international player limit.

Laurent Merlin is the other player that impresses Yallop.  Merlin is a 22 year old Frenchman who came up in the Marseille youth system.  His age prevents him from counting towards the senior international player limit.

Good luck to both of them in the upcoming preseason.

Lots of Galaxy on TV

With the announcement of the MLS 2007 regular season schedule comes a lot of buzz about when the Galaxy (and Beckham) are gonna be in town.  Aparently this should be a huge TV draw, according to an ESPNsoccernet article, they Galaxy will be televised nationally in 16 of their last 17 regular season games.  I know they are counting more than just what ESPN and ESPN2 will show, but that is still a lot of Galaxy. From the ESPNsoccernet article:

The former England captain likely will make his MLS debut Aug. 5 at Toronto, according to the MLS schedule released Tuesday. But he could don his Galaxy shirt for the first time in late July when Los Angeles plays in the SuperLiga, an eight-team exhibition event between MLS and Mexican clubs. The Galaxy play Mexico’s Chivas on July 24 at home, against Pachuca on July 28 and travel three days later to play at FC Dallas, the only MLS team that will not see Beckham during the regular season. Sixteen of the Los Angeles Galaxy’s final 17 games are scheduled to be broadcast nationally. “Adjustments were made to maximize David Beckham joining Galaxy in mid-July,” said Dan Courtemanche, MLS’ senior vice president of communications and marketing. “There was no major upheaval to ensure every team will have the Galaxy at home after mid-July.”

No Beckham at start of season

Recent reports claim that Beckham might get out of his contract at Real Madrid in time to be in LA for the beginning of the season due to the fact that their manager said he would never play for Real Madrid again.  The CBC is reporting that this is not a possiblity:

The verdict is in: David Beckham will not be leaving Real Madrid for Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy before the end of the Spanish league season. “One thing is clear, he [Beckham] still has six months left in his contract,” Real Madrid sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic said Monday. “He has to complete his contract.”
Too bad for LA, not too bad for their early season opponents.

David Beckham coming to LA Galaxy

David Beckham will be in a Galaxy jersey this fall.  Over 5 years he will be making $250 million with the Galaxy, that will be the largest annual salary in American pro team sports history.  All that money from a guy who had pretty much lost his starting spot on his current team Real Madrid in Spain.

It will be very interesting to see how Beckham becomes part of American soccer.  I wonder if you’ll see more of Beckham on ESPN or E!.  My money is on E!.

Beckham coming to the MLS?

The rumors just won’t stop. Is Beckham done at Real Madrid, is he coming to play for the LA Galaxy, will he play for England again? Well this is just my take on it. Keep in mind I don’t know Beckham or even anyone that does, and I am in no way qualified to tell you what is likely to happen, other than just being a fan an interested myself.

Beckham will come to play for the Galaxy in the MLS. It may not be this year or even next, but I would be within 3 years he’ll be in LA. I don’t have any reasons to beleive this, but I don’t have any reason to think that it couldn’t happen. The MLS named a rule change after Beckham that allows teams to go over any salary cap. Thats reason enough for me!

It would be very interesting to see how he would impact the Galaxy, and also how the American media would treat him. I hope it happens sooner rather than later.

Nate Jaqua goin to the Galaxy

I don’t understand what is goin on with Nate Jaqua. First the Fire let Torornt get their hands on him in the expansion draft, and then Toronto send him off to the Galaxy. I would think any MLS team would love to have Nate Jaqua starting up front for them. Am I just overrating him?

Joe Cannon and Nate Jaqua are gonna take the Galaxy back to the playoffs.

Kevin Hartman goes to KC!

Well it is now clear what the Galaxy had planned when they picked up Joe Cannon. They just traded Kevin Hartman to the Kansas City Wizards. That is exciting news for a Wizards fan. I’m just gonna go ahead and say that the Wizards will get back to the playoffs next season with the addition of Hartman, and probably eventually another MLS Championship!

Kevin Hartman or Joe Cannon

The Galaxy traded Hercules Gomez to Colorado for Joe Cannon. There was a little bit more involved in the trade, but these are the two that surprised me. I can’t imagine either Hartman or Cannon sitting on the bench, so I wonder whats goin on in LA. Are they getting rid of Hartman, or want to trade Cannon off to someone else? Anyone know what the plan in LA is?

Galaxy interested in David Beckham

Aparently the Los Angeles Galaxy are interested in bringing David Beckham to the MLS and the most glamourous club in the MLS. The Galaxy have one MLS Cup to their name, a couple US Open cups, and did not qualify for the playoffs this year, but are supposed to be the glamour team of the MLS. Well either way, they want David Beckham.

Beckham may be wanting to get out of Real Madrid if he does not get a starting spot back, but I’d be kinda surprised if he came to the MLS before going somewhere else. The MLS would probably have to ditch a salary cap to get Beckham here to play, which I’m sure they would do, but will it really happen?

It would be great to see Beckham in the MLS before he is too old, and he did say on that commercial that he’d never say no to coming to play in America. I’d be surprised, but I hope it does happen, even if he does play for the Galaxy.
