DC United Got A Point, Almost Three

DC United were inches from stealing all 3 points at the end of the game tonite vs the New England Revolution and if they had, I’d be happy only because my Thursday Futbol prediction was a 2-1 DC victory.  I figured you can’t keep a team like that down forever.  Soon they are gonna go crazy on some poor team.  But the game ends 1-1 and each team go home with a point.

I didn’t get to see the first half, and wasn’t able to see the entire 2nd half either.  I did catch both goals, the red card and the end of the game.  I think the Revolution got the raw end of some bad decisions made by the ref.  The PK call was pretty weak that DC tied the game on, and Joseph’s red card was shocking.  I think some days that would not have even gotten a yellow card.  Everyone is allowed to make mistakes though.

I realized tonite that I agree with just about everything Eric Wynalda ever has to say.  I think Tommy was correct and Eric was wrong last week when they were discussing the hand ball issue, but other than that Eric is usually right on track with what I’m thinking.  I knew he was always my favorite player for a reason.

Bad news for the Revolution

On April 7th the New England Revolution travel to Chicago to open the 2007 MLS regular season but they could possibly be missing 3 important pieces of a very good team.

Pat Noonan had sports hernia surgery on his groin yesterday after taking an injury while training in Mexico.  It is not known weather Noonal will be able to play by the season opener.

Michael Parkhurst on the other hand is definetly on the sidelines for that first game in Chicago.  He seperated his left shoulder while surfing.  It is not aparent when he will be back in the linup.

Daniel Hernandez will also be missing that game with also with a groin injury.

News like that could very well lead to an opening day pick against the defending Eastern Conference Champions on opening day.

Robbie Fowler MLS Rumors

Over a month ago there was talk about Robbie Fowler leaving Liverpool to come to MLS, and now is round two I guess.

Aparently this time there is even a specific team he’s talking to. Actually this part is true, Robbie Fowler and New England Revolution have confirmed they have spoken about Fowler coming to play for an old Liverpool friend, Revs coach Steve Nicol.

Fowler’s agent denies that he could be going to the MLS, most people agree that the Revolution cannot afford Fowler, and Liverpool’s coach says that Fowler is the #1 striker at Liverpool right now.

I guess it is possible that Fowler doesn’t get a renewed contract at Liverpool, the Revolution come up with some nice cash and they do bring Fowler. It would be great for MLS and the Revolution if he did come, but I’m not gonna hold my breath waiting for it to happen.

Fulham taking all the Americans they can get

The Boston Globe reports that the MLS has agreed to sell Clint Dempsey to Fulham of the EPL for an MLS record $4 million. It is too bad to see such a talent go, but its great to see that the MLS can produce such a talent that attracts attention from teams in one of the top leagues in the world.

Oguchi Onyewu is also reported to be making a possible move from his current club in Belgium to join Americans Carlos Bocanegra and Brian McBride who have been at Fulham for a couple of years already.

That would give Fulham 4 Americans that could all potentially hold down starting jobs there. That would also probably push them past any other teams in the EPL as far as my favorites go! I’ve already got the Fulham scarf hanging in my computer room! c’mon you whites!

Clint, you will be missed in the MLS, and I’m sure OO will be missed in Belgium. Good luck at Fulham guys!

thoughts about the final

Well I guess I don’t have a lot of thought about the actual game play itself, it was a pretty good game and my future news was wrong, as usual.

I can’t beleive ABC just doesn’t seem to get it.  Every fuckin sunday every channel (it seems) has pre-football shows on all morning, probably even channels that aren’t actually going to show a game even….  The MLS Cup rolls around and leading up to it, they have a fucking infomercial for the nu-wave oven or some crap.  come on ABC, just a half an hour would be great.  The actuall kickoff wasn’t until 15 minutes after the coverage started, but it seemed like it was all pre-recorded shit about Taylor Twellman and Brian Ching.   They deserve it, but it would have been that hard to ditch the infomercial?

Well enough of that.  I know it went to extra time and PK’s, but after the game they were as quick as they could be to drop coverage and go to news.  This is a final ABC, show us a little bit of it.  Even though I was kind of cheering for the Revolution, I still wanted to see the trophy presented to the Dynamo.  They are a good team and they deserve it.

The most impressive part of the game for me was the Dynamo fans.  That looks like a fun crowd to be in.  Maybe its just something about the orange teams, the orange the fans wear really sticks out.  It was quite a bit more impressive than the last Minnesota Thunder game I saw.

Even though I don’t consider myself a Revolution fan, I hope that team gets one soon.

Can’t wait until next season starts!!!!

Taylor Twellman seals the game early

Taylor Twellman scored right at the beginning of the eastern conference final vs DC United, and thats all the Revolution needed to put them into the MLS Cup.  Overall the 2nd half was not too exciting.  It looked like there would sure be more goals scored both ways at time, but overall the 2nd half was not the most exciting football seen this season.  New England didn’t look too good, but they got done just what they needed to do.

Exciting 2nd Legs Tonite

Earlier I watched as the Chicago Fire looked like they would cruise into the Eastern Conference semi-finals when they went up 2-0 on aggregate vs the New England Revolution. The Revolution fought back and scored 2 goals to force overtime and eventually a shoot out. Thiago and Guerrero both missed PK’s for the Fire before Taylor Twellman stepped up and scored the game winner. Revolution advance to the semi-finals.

I have not been able to watch the FC Dallas/Colorado Rapids 2nd leg in Dallas tonite, but I’ve been following online. Seems Clint Mathis scored a late goal in extra time to force a shootout, then took and made the first PK. Finally on the 6th shot, Pablo Mastroeni hit the game winning goal to send the Rapids into the Western Conference semi-finals.
