How can we not beat Guatemala?

I know this is just a friendly game, but we have a new coach who hasn’t been offered a contract yet, and a team that is supposed to be rebounding from a terrible world cup last summer.  It is about time that US fans get mad about a team not being able to beat Guatemala on US grounds.

Italy did not become world champions by Italian fans and press just dismissing a draw with a much lesser country than themselves by saying “ehhhh, maybe next time”.  Ten years ago that might have been the case in the US, but now we should expect more.

It hurts to still be high on the US after their Ecuador pounding on Sunday to watch the Guatemala show last nite.

I do however still think that Bob Bradley should be offered the damm job already.

US beats Ecuador 3-1!

Right before the game i sent this text message to a buddy:

The laptop goes off during the game, I’ll catch you later 3 - 1 USA!
That is two in a row with only proof to one person. I really must start posting those predictions here a couple days ahead of time. Glad to see Landan Donovan ripping it up! He scored a hat trick today in case you did not see or hear about the game. I agree with Wynalda, why haven’t they hired Bradley yet? I also really hope they aren’t waiting to get a foreign coach. Dick’s Sporting Goods shows a lot of MLS support, they even built a stadium for the Rapids, but why do they keep showing that baseball commercial? You think they could come up with a soccer commercial they could show during the soccer games the sponsor? Oh and the jerseys weren’t as bad as I thought they were a couple days ago.  I still don’t like the pinstripe.

New US National Team Jersey

I thought it was a joke the first time i saw it, but it is real:

That is the jersey the US will wear on Sunday when they take on Ecuador. I guess it is only a 3rd jersey, but geez. I am alone thinking thats damm ugly?

Does anyone else remember the jerseys the US wore in 94? They were terrible, at least the blue one was, which is the exact jersey I wore to the Silverdome to watch the US vs Switzerland in the very first indoor world cup. What were they thinking?

Getting excited for nothing

Before this morning I was totally excited about watching the US MNT this evening.  I’m sure you already know that game is next week on wednesday rather than today.  They also play this coming Sunday.

March 25th 11:00 AM - US MNT vs Ecuador

March 28th 8:00 PM - US MNT vs Guatemala

Hopefully this is 2 more wins for Bob Bradley.

Another World Cup in the USA

The US Soccer Foundation has shown some interest in becoming an alternative host for the 2014 World Cup if no South American country emerges as a host. Brazil is likely but if they have any kind of problems, the US could step in and take over hosting duties for the 2nd time since my soccer career began.  In 1994 the US set attendance records for the world cup, which was a big influence in the creation of the MLS, and thus the strength of our national team today.

England is possibly looking to be a host 4 years later in 2018, but if the World Cup does go to South America in 2014, the US could rival England for hosting duties.  Between now and either of those years, I think the US could potentially take the steps they need to make in order be really be considered a serious challenger for the the World Cup.   Hopefully we get to host one of those years!

USA Continues Dominance over Mexico

My prediction: 2-0 - USA Actual Result: 2-0 - USA

  • Landon Donovan looked much better than he did last year!
  • Pablo was awesome!
  • Congrats to Jimmy Conrad, what a way to get your first goal!
  • Mexico was unlucky several times in the 2nd half to not score.
  • I want to see Taylor Twellman soon.
  • After Jimmy Conrad’s goal the camera cut to the crowd and I’m pretty sure Woody Harrelson was there waving a US flag (ESPN2).
  • Green really seemed to go down easy (1st half), reminders of maroon this summer?
  • Landon Donovan just scored another goal to make my prediction complete! (Beautiful Goal)
But most importantly: Mexico have not scored a goal in the US against the US yet this decade! Unfortunately the only proof of my 2-0 prediction was via IM with my dad right before kick off.  But This result will certainly brighten my thursday and lead into a good weekend!  Thank You Jimmy Conrad and Co!

And don’t miss USA vs. Mexico tomorrow nite live on ESPN2 at 8:00 PM central time.

US scores 3 unanswered to down Denmark!

After giving up the first goal of the game the US fought back to tie the game before halftime, and then added a pair in the 2nd half to complete a 3-1 victory over a very inexperienced Denmark team.

Landon Donovan scored his frist goal in over 18 games with a poorly struck penalty that should have been saved, but it counts when it hits the back of the net, and it was enough to send the teams into the locker room at halftime with a 1-1 tie. In the second half Justin Mapp, a halftime sub, made a great run all the way down the right wing, broke thru 2 defenders and from the end line sent a beautiful pass into Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA) who game the US the lead in his very first cap for the US. Later in the 2nd half Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas) came on to get his first cap and went on to score the 3rd US goal.

This is a great start for Bob Bradley as the temporary coach, it will be what I beleive one step towards him getting that coaching spot full time.

Don’t miss US vs Denmark today at 4pm (Central time)

Bob Bradley gets his first game at the head of US soccer. Bradley has a roster made up almost completely of MLS players, with Dan Califf and Heath Pearce the only exceptions.

Goalkeepers (2) – Joe Cannon (Los Angeles Galaxy), Matt Reis (New England Revolution)
Defenders (7) – Chris Albright (Los Angeles Galaxy), Bobby Boswell (D.C. United), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Dan Califf (Aalborg BK), Jimmy Conrad (Kansas City Wizards), Bryan Namoff (D.C. United), Heath Pearce (FC Nordsjælland)
Midfielders (4) – Kyle Beckerman (Colorado Rapids), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Justin Mapp (Chicago Fire), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids)
Forwards (5) –Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Eddie Johnson (Kansas City Wizards), Nate Jaqua (Los Angeles Galaxy), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)

I predict Nate Jaqua for a hat trick and a big US win!
